Mini- Marathon London 2025
15 of our children were selected to run 2.6km, joined by Mr Wheeler and Mr Hudson, as part of the TCS Mini-Marathon event in London. The event was thrilling and certainly inspired the next generation. The effort from our children was exceptional and we could not have been more proud of what they achieved; medals were well deserved. Crossing the finish line on the Pall Mall was a wonderful memory for those involved and the wonderful supporters watching from the Grandstand and beyond.
Here are some of the testimonies from the children involved:
Running the mini marathon was a fun and an enjoyable experience and I felt proud to represent Merryhills. As someone who regularly runs, I was excited when I heard about the opportunity and I’m grateful I got the chance to support my school. Anassa, Year 5On Saturday morning I met Mr Hudson, Mr Wheeler, Mrs Bowkley and all the other Merryhills runners on Horsegurads Parade. Lights and screens all showing mini London Marathon, there were huge crowds, it was very noisy and really exciting leading up to the race, even more so when I got the chance to meet Joe Wicks. I couldn’t wait for sound of the horn to start. Running it was tough, pushing myself to the limit, when I saw the finish line I sprinted as fast as I could. It felt good at the end because it was difficult but all worth it for the medal I received. I hope to be able to compete in the 2026 mini London Marathon as it was an unforgettable, unique experience. Louis, Year 5
Some other students and I took part in the London mini marathon, which is a 2.6km run around London. Mr Hudson and Mr Wheeler also took part. We ran past a few famous areas: Buckingham Palace, St James's Park and we finished this outstanding experience by running along The Mall, where many parades are held. Joe Wicks organised the warmup before we began (that must bring back memories of lockdown!). First thing in the morning the semi elite athletes including disabled racers were all running the course trying to get a good time so they could get into other races like the Olympics or the proper marathon. One day I hope to folllow in their footsteps! At the end everyone was awarded a golden medal. Rufus, Year 4
I had a wonderful time at the mini marathon. It was a great experience with lots of fun. I mostly enjoyed the end part of the race because everybody was cheering and giving us high-fives. Milla, Year 4
