Assemblies
We have a carefully thought-out structure of planned assemblies throughout the week.
This is a valuable opportunity for the pupils of all ages to engage and reflect collectively.
Singing Assembly: We are fortunate to have talented, musical staff at Merryhills who will lead a weekly singly assembly; children of our school will sing together to raise the roof on our school hall! Our wonderful choir will be used as role models and will often showcase their own after school efforts. The Singing Assembly takes place in phases.
Year 1 and 2 – Wednesday; Year 3 and 4 Monday; Year 5 and 6 Monday.
Values/RSHE Assembly: Each half term will begin and end with an assembly which will focus on the current value of the half-term; shared through stories, real life examples and various other stimuli. This assembly supports the teaching of values and ensures they are fully embedded into our school curriculum. Other assemblies will focus on a variety of RSHE topics as well as focusing on global awareness.
Year 1 and 2 – Monday; Year 3 and 4 Wednesday; Year 5 and 6 Thursday.
Thursday – Class assembly: This will be a celebration of all the wonderful learning taking place in their classroom. Parents and classes within the class’ phase are invited to watch our assemblies on Thursdays.
Friday – Achievement assembly: This an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of Merryhills’ pupils; certificates will be given to each class for:
Above and Beyond Award, Writer of The Week and Values Award
We will also announce the weekly house points winners, and the winners of the Golden Token Awards for our Reading Vending Machine for completing their weekly reading diaries and reading logs.
Circle Time: On days where children are not in assembly, there will be a circle time in class focusing on global awareness; looking at current affairs, national days as well as promoting the schools’ future charity events. This will provide children with the chance to reflect on pertinent issues across the globe.
Religious Education Festivals: At Merryhills, we are very proud to be a multi-faith school and in order to celebrate our diversity, the children will celebrate special religious festivals taking place across the world. Stories and craft activities will take part from EYFS to Year 6 in order to share knowledge and gain an authentic understanding on how cultures celebrate these occasions. There will also be an opportunity to collectively reflect on these celebrations within assemblies.
